Friday Feature: Happy Birthday Mama

Today is my mom’s 64th Birthday! We are down in Guatemala and will have to make due with video calls to celebrate today but I wanted to do something else to honor her. Many of you know my mom already; but, if you don’t let me introduce you to the lady that birthed me, raised me and gave me the photography bug. So let’s talk about my mom.

The youngest of 5 kids my mom grew up in Northern Wisconsin. She met my dad in high school, married him shortly after college and had me and my two siblings all before she turned 30.

Growing up my mom was always there, she would arrange her work schedule around our school schedule. Cutting back from a career that she loved so she was always home to be our tutor, driver, chef and everything in between. She never abandoned her self though. She always had her own hobbies she would be a part of and a wonderful group of women she surrounded herself with.

When I think of my mom I think about gardening, wine, nature and photography.

That’s right, my mom also happens to be a very talented nature photographer. (Go give her a follow for her birthday @julesofnature).

Since I’m the baby of the family my mom and I spent a lot of time together just the two of us. Like most teenage girls I made life hard on my mom. But all our fighting and struggles when I was younger has only made us closer today. She is the pure definition of unconditional love and devotion. So Happy Birthday Mama Brown. I look up to you as a mother, photographer and woman. Today I honor all you are and all you’ve done for those you love.

Love you
